Questions to ask your rehabilitation specialist

A short list of questions will help you get the most out of each appointment.

Short answer

A good rehabilitation plan answers three questions: what we're working on, how exactly, and how we'll know it's working. Don't hesitate to ask for plain-language explanations and to be shown exercises for home.

What you can do

  1. What are our goals for the next 2–3 months? (E.g. steadier sitting, weight-bearing on legs, grasping objects.)
  2. Which exercises should we do at home every day? Please show me exactly how.
  3. What must we avoid in our case? Which loads are contraindicated?
  4. Do we need orthoses, a stander, or other equipment — and how do we get it covered?
  5. When and by what signs do we measure progress? What should I write in the diary?
